History Of Homework – How It Began

Homework is any task that has been assigned to you by your teacher to be completed outside the class. It usually relates to the subject or topic you are handling. Homework assignments are meant to, among other things:

  1. Assist you in rehearsing ideas taught in class
  2. Teach you independence since you handle the questions without the assistance of your teacher
  3. Test your ability to understand concepts taught in class
  4. Give your teacher feedback on your grasp
  5. Ensure that you remember and practice what it taught beyond class
  6. Prepare you for real examination situations.

It is not always that you do homework successfully. There are instances when you do not understand the topic or are short of time. Many students are bothered by the justification behind assignments. Where did the idea of assignments come from and is looking for help justified?

History
There is not documented evidence to show the first teacher or student to deal with an assignment at home. However, it is a known and documented fact that even in the mid-19th century, students carried work home and there was not contention about it. Children had to find time away from school to research and find answers to questions and assignments issued in school. There was no contention on its existence, the amount given or whether a homework helper was required to provide assistance.

Between 1900 and 1913, the crusade against assignments carried home began. It was spearheaded by Ladies’ Home Journal. The campaign took a professional angle with the involvement of parent and doctors in an attempt to convince the public that the assignments were damaging to the health and wellbeing of children. It must be noted that between 1899 and 1915, several school districts even passed regulations aimed at limiting and even eliminating home assignments. Some of these districts include Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In fact, California banned it for K-8 grades, limiting the work to high school in 1901.

Controversy has always been on when a student would do my homework. This is because of the central role of children in the labor force of the house. Teachers would be concerned that students were not completing the work while parents were worried that it was too much such that they cannot finish house chores.

A lot of studies have been conducted on the value and importance of help my homework in the development and academic pursuit of a child. While some support the fact that it helps students to practice what they have learnt, other people wanted more focus to be on the health of pupils. If they cannot find time to bond with the family, education will become an ill that is separating families.

The controversy over the legitimacy of assignments has lead to growth of homework online help platforms. They target to make it easier for students to finish their assignments without spending too much time or resources. The platforms exist in the form of websites and agencies where you provide your assignment details and wait to get complete work back. Parents and students alike have embraced this, though teachers have reservations.

The role of helpers whenever a student wants CPM homework help has remained contentious. For educationists, if such assignments are to achieve their goal, they must be completed by the student. By getting help, the purpose will be defeated. However, there are instances where assistance is not denied all together. For instance, math would be easier with a homework help app that only requires you to enter the formula. Since you understand the method, you can skip the calculations. This saves time and makes the assignments enjoyable.

Family members and parents who offer student homework help would also miss an opportunity to assist such students in their academic pursuit. It gives students confidence when they have a family member or friend who is assisting with assignments when they’re saying “I need help with my paper“. However, in their absence, such students will be left to struggle alone. The contention on finding help is therefore resolved by creating limits on how far the assistant can go. The student is also encouraged to only seek assistance whenever it is necessary. Extending the need for assistance will only work against the goal of education for the student.
